Adult Education: Tours and Cards Procedure
Teachers of Adult learners in the Taunton area are encouraged to incorporate library skills into their adult education and English as a second language classes. Tours can be structured to familiarize your students with basic library services. It is imperative that you call ahead to book the tour. We cannot accommodate class tours on the spur of the moment and tours will not be conducted without prior arrangements
Classroom visits by members of our staff can also be arranged if you would to prefer a more in depth approach on a particular area of library service.
Within the framework of learning about the library is the actual securing of a library card. We recommend those students without library cards obtain them at the time of a tour. We can provide for each classroom teacher, application cards to be filled out by each student prior to the tour. Library staff can register them and give them a card at the end of the tour. Application cards cannot be accepted at the time of an in-class visit by library staff.
We do have some basic guidelines to receiving a card:
- Students will need to bring a license or another form of picture identification or two other pieces of official identification if there is no picture i.d. with them at the time of library card registration
- Applications must be filled out in ink and be LEGIBLE, especially the student’s signature.
- If the student already has an ABLE or SAILS card from the Taunton Public Library or another area library, there is no need to apply for an additional card.
- If a previous card has been lost, there is no need to reregister providing the student is still in the database. There is a $1.00 charge for lost cards.
- Outstanding charges for lost or overdue books will have to be cleared up prior to checking out any further materials.
