Checking out without a card Procedure
--ALL patrons must have their own library cards to check out materials and put in their hold requests. This is a policy throughout SAILS. For the patrons’ own safety and privacy, they really need their own cards.
If they do not have their card, we will put materials aside for them for one day only.
DO NOT use any other form of I.D.
DO NOT offer to replace their cards (unless they know for certain that the cards are lost). I really don’t like the idea of issuing replacement cards just because the patron forgot their “real” card—I can give you a whole list of problems I anticipate this will cause.
HOWEVER, if it is a regular patron well known to you, I do not have a problem with you checking out materials to him/her once –BUT you must instill in that patron that you have made an exception to the policy and that he/she needs to have the card with them—you really aren’t supposed to be making exceptions.
