Emergency Evacuation Procedure

In the event of an emergency and/or at the sound of the fire alarm, follow this procedure:

REFERENCE STAFF All reference staff are to clear the two reading rooms and all smaller reference rooms as they move toward the front stairs to the main desk. If the main staircase is blocked, use the back staircase to the first floor to reach the main desk.

NEVER USE THE ELEVATOR!

CHILDREN’S STAFF All children’s room staff are to clear the children’s room, the two sets of rest rooms, the trustees’ room and the auditorium as they make their way out the rear, side door. If this exit is blocked, use the front staircase to the main desk. NEVER USE THE ELEVATOR!

MAIN FLOOR STAFF All staff on the main floor are to clear both lobbies as they move to the front door exit. If this exit is blocked, use the back staircase to the rear side exit. Direct patrons to the main desk and to accessible exits, using the main front exit as the primary exit. NEVER USE THE ELEVATOR!

--The designated valuable reference and administrative materials should be taken out of the building during the evacuation by the assigned personnel.

--The main meeting place is across our driveway, on the lawn of Mr. Berube’s property.

DO NOT PROCEED INTO THE STACKS TO FIND PATRONS—FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL ARE EQUIPPED AND TRAINED TO DO THIS.

KEEP AWAY FROM THE FRONT STAIRS AND THE MAIN DRIVEWAY. KEEP OUT OF THE WAY OF FIRE PERSONNEL.
