Safety Policy
Disposable vinyl gloves are provided to each individual office as well as the adult and children’s circulation desks. These are to be used EVERY time assistance is to be given to an injured patron.
Clean up buckets and tools for “accidents” are located in the reserve room and in the children’s room. Cover the accident area with the material provided PRIOR to locating the custodian. To prevent any further accidents mark the spot with a “caution” easel. If the custodian is not on duty, sweep the area clean with the tools provided.
In the event that a patron injures himself:
CONSCIOUS
- 1. DO NOT move the patron.
- 2. Ask patron if assistance is needed.
- 3. Ask patron whom they would like you to call for assistance.
- 4. Ask if patron would like an ambulance. If so, call police ambulance.
UNCONSCIOUS
- 1. DO NOT move the patron.
- 2. Call the police ambulance.
We have been instructed by the current city solicitor to basically use common sense and to do the right thing; better to err on the side of compassion and common sense than apathy and insensitivity.
